The Spreading Flame

Remember the cry, “These are the men that turned the world upside down!”? After Christianity exploded onto the scene, it didn’t take long for the world to take notice. What was it that made the difference? You and I know that it was the Holy Spirit taking up residence in the believers’ life. If you are a Christian, you already have the most powerful force in the universe living within. God the Holy Spirit. Today we begin a study on the Book of Acts called the Spreading flame. It details the Power of the Holy Spirit and the Witness of the Apostles as they engulfed the world in the spreading flame of the gospel. Join me in Acts chapter 1 as Pastor Dennis opens God’s Word to us.

Did you know that you were created to worship? Have you ever gone through praise-less times? There are times when the most difficult words to utter are “Praise the Lord.” There are seasons of drabness and dryness when the heart is crusted over with worry, insecurity, confusion, anger or darkness. What do you tell a person who daily struggles through the blahs? What do you tell a person who has no Song?

Are you struggling with the grind of poor decision making Psalm 137 is a very sad song. It relates the high cost of some tragic decisions that led to sorrowful consequences. So much can come from a set of choices. Sin always leads to tragedy. We eventually reap what we sow. And all too often we harm others on the way down. This message is a warning. Please, make your decisions sensibly. For if you choose unwisely, your cup may overflow with rivers of regret.

Psalm 131
Oh, it’s hard to be humble when you are as good as I am – so says the song. Genuine humility isn't something we can announce very easily. To claim this virtue is, as a rule, to forfeit it. Put it on display and instantly it wilts and loses its fragrance! No, humility isn't something to be announced. But are you aware that Humility just might be one of the most overlooked, and yet one of the most important attributes a leader can possess. Our goal today is to discover how we can avoid haughtiness and practice humility.
